Sports Chiropractic in Edmond, OK

Chiropractic Care Built Around Your Sport

Being an athlete doesn't require a professional contract.

If you actively participate in a sport, whether you're competing at a high level or playing in a recreational league, the demands you place on your body matter.

At Trademark Chiropractic, sports chiropractic isn't about giving every athlete the same adjustment or trying to “fix” every ache before you can train again.

We evaluate you, your sport, your movement and the specific problem getting in your way.

Our goal whenever possible is simple:

Keep you moving. Keep you training. Build your way back to full capacity.

Trademark Chiropractic provides individualized sports chiropractic care for athletes throughout Edmond and North Oklahoma City.

Who do we treat

We work with athletes across a wide range of sports and experience levels.

Some of the athletes we commonly see include:

Lifters

Strength training places significant demands on the shoulders, spine, hips and ankles. We work with lifters experiencing pain or movement limitations that interfere with squatting, pressing, pulling and other training.

Golfers

Golf requires repeated rotation, coordination and force production throughout the entire body. Neck, shoulder, low-back and mobility problems can make playing and practicing uncomfortable.

Boxers & Combat Athletes

Boxing places unique demands on the shoulders, neck, spine, hips, hands and lower body. We consider not only where you're hurting but also the repetitive movements and training demands contributing to the problem.

Baseball & Softball Athletes

Throwing, swinging, sprinting and fielding require the entire body to work together. Shoulder, neck, back and lower-extremity problems can interfere with practice and competition.

Recreational Athletes

Rec-league athletes are still athletes.

If you're playing a sport and asking your body to perform, recover and do it again next week, your activity matters when we develop your treatment plan.

Common Problems we see in athletes

Athletes can experience almost any musculoskeletal problem, but some of the areas we commonly treat at Trademark Chiropractic include:

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder problems are common in lifters, boxers, golfers and throwing athletes.

Instead of assuming every painful shoulder has the same cause, we evaluate shoulder movement, strength, surrounding joints and the specific movements that provoke your symptoms.

Neck Pain

Repeated impact, training positions, prolonged postures and sport-specific demands can all contribute to neck discomfort.

We assess the cervical spine along with the shoulders and surrounding musculature to determine what may be contributing.

Low Back Pain

Low-back pain is common in both athletes and the general population. For an athlete, we also want to know when it hurts.

Does it bother you during a deadlift? At the bottom of your golf swing? After practice? During rotation? Only under heavier loads? Those details help guide the assessment.

Ankle Pain & Mobility Problems

The ankle has to tolerate force while providing enough movement for running, squatting, jumping, cutting and changing direction. When ankle pain or restricted movement becomes a problem, we evaluate the ankle itself along with how the athlete uses it during relevant movements.

We don't just ask where it hurts

Pain tells us where you are experiencing a problem. It doesn't automatically tell us why.

That's why sports chiropractic at Trademark begins with an examination instead of immediately putting you on the table for an adjustment.

We want to understand:

  • When the problem started

  • What makes it better or worse

  • What your training currently looks like

  • Your recent changes in volume or intensity

  • Previous injuries

  • Your range of motion

  • Joint movement

  • Strength and muscle function

  • Orthopedic and neurological findings when appropriate

  • The movements required by your sport

Then, when useful, we look at the actual movement giving you trouble.

That could mean a squat, hinge, overhead movement, golf position, throwing motion or another sport-specific task.

The goal is to identify the limiting factors that actually matter to you.

Two athletes with the same pain may need different treatment

This is one of the most important parts of our approach.

Two baseball players can both walk into our office with shoulder pain and have completely different problems.

One may have limited joint movement.

Another may have adequate mobility but poor strength or control in a particular position. One may be struggling with training volume. Another may have a painful muscular trigger point.

That means they shouldn't automatically receive the same adjustment, the same exercise or the same treatment plan just because they play the same sport and hurt in the same place.

Your assessment determines your treatment and your reassessments tell us whether it's working.

What does a sports chiropractic visit include

There is no single “sports chiropractic treatment” at Trademark Chiropractic.

Depending on what we find during your examination, your visit may include:

Chiropractic Adjustments

We use chiropractic adjustments when improving movement at a particular joint may be useful.

For athletes, the goal isn't to make you “more athletic” with an adjustment.

We are trying to improve joint movement, decrease symptoms when possible and create a better opportunity to use and load that area afterward.

Dry Needling

Trigger-point dry needling may be used when a muscular trigger point reproduces your symptoms or creates a recognizable referred pain pattern. [LEARN MORE ABOUT DRY NEEDLING]

IASTM / Scraping

Instrument-assisted soft-tissue techniques may be incorporated when appropriate as part of treatment for painful or restricted areas.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping may be used as another soft-tissue treatment option depending on the athlete and their presentation.

Kinesiology Taping

Taping may provide temporary support or sensory feedback while an athlete continues moving or training.

Stretching & Mobility

When mobility is part of the problem, we may incorporate targeted mobility work rather than simply stretching everything that feels tight.

Exercise & Progressive Loading

Ultimately, athletes need to tolerate the demands of their sport.

When appropriate, exercises are selected to address the specific limitation identified during your assessment and help progressively expose the area to the demands it needs to handle.
